Frequently asked questions

How are the colours chosen?

With k-means clustering: similar pixels are grouped and each group’s average colour becomes one palette colour, sorted by how much of the image it covers.

Why do I get fewer colours than I asked for?

Images with only a few distinct colours, like flat logos, show exactly those colours.

Are transparent areas counted?

No. Fully or mostly transparent pixels are ignored.
